Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQ's. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have.

What issue can counselling help with?

A safe supportive space for you to explore whatever feels difficult or confusing in your life. Many people come with experiences or life events which have impacted them, others come with anxiety, depression, low mood and unexplained feelings. Whatever you bring is welcomed and we will explore it together.

What can I expect during my first session?

The first session is a gentle introduction. It's a chance for you to share what has brought you to counselling and what you hope for moving forward. We will take time to get to know each other and see if working together feels right for you. There is no pressure - just space for you to be heard.

How long is a counselling session?

Each session is 50 minutes long, and this duration will begin at the agreed-upon start time, regardless of late arrivals. This time is typically sufficient to explore the concerns on your mind without feeling rushed, while maintaining a clear sense of structure and safety. However, if you feel that additional time would be beneficial, I am happy to arrange longer sessions with prior notice.

Is everything
I say confidential?

Yes. What you share in counselling is held in confidence. There are a few rare exceptions involving safety where I may need to share information and this will be explained before our first session together. You will always feel supported and informed.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone's journey is unique, some people find a few sessions helpful, while others appreciate ongoing support over a longer period. We can regularly review how things are feeling for you. There is no obligation to book a set amount of sessions.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes absolutely. You can choose to meet online, in person, or by phone - whatever feels most comfortable and accessible for you. My aim is to create a space where you feel safe to talk, wherever you are.

How much does counselling cost?

Each session is £50, and this will be for in person, online and over the phone. I am always happy to talk things through with you so you have all the information you need before starting.

How do I book a session?

You can reach me by phone (07931216526), email (samgoldencounselling@yahoo.com) or by filling out a contact form on the contact page on this website. I always aim to reply within 24-48 hours, and we can find a time that works well for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

If something comes up and you need to cancel, I just ask for 24-48 hours notice. This helps me offer the space to someone else who might be waiting. Late cancellation or missed sessions will be charged.

What type of therapy do you offer?

My approach is grounded in the belief that you are the expert in your own life. I work in a person-centred way, which means I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. Rather than directing or giving advice, I walk alongside you, helping you connect more deeply with your own inner wisdom. If it's helpful, I may gently draw on other therapeutic ideas, but the focus will always remain on what feels right for you.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, curious about understanding yourself more deeply or simply hoping for support, counselling may be helpful. You're welcome to arrange a first session and see how it feels - there is no obligation.

Do you work with children, teens or couples?

I currently work with teenagers who are 15+. I offer support for adults of any age and a range of disabilities.

What should I do in a crisis?

I am unable to provide emergency or crisis support. If you are in immediate danger or feel unable to keep yourself safe please contact emergency services, your GP or your local crisis helpline right away. You deserve the support as soon as you need it.

Do I need a referral from a GP?

No, you can reach out directly whenever you feel ready to begin.
